Shouldham Primary School, Norfolk

Client
Ely Diocesan Board of Education
Status
Complete

This new primary school, located on the edge of the village of Shouldham, replaces the old and out-dated Victorian schools in two adjoining villages.  It has taken the educational authorities over 20 years of wrangling to achieve the new school, which serves as a focus for communities of the area.

The school serves pupils of ages 4 to 11 and comprises of three classrooms, group room, hall, staff and admin areas and hall.  The external area includes a playing field, a hard play area, adventure and nature spaces and car parking.

The contract was completed on time and within budget by 'local Norfolk'.  The architecture is a response to the rural setting and the adjacent picturesque conservation area with its large barns and cottages of flint walls and pantile roofs collected around the large village green. The design allows for future development and expansion.
