Planning permission has been granted for a 100% affordable housing scheme on Station Road Willingham, Cambridgeshire designed by Saunders Boston Architects for development contractors Kingswater Lindum and registered social housing provider Cross Keys Homes.
The proposed development consists of 22 no. two and three bedroom dwellings of both one and two stories with a block of 4 no. one bedroom flats. The development incorporates both semi-detached and detached dwellings with a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent tenures.
The scheme incorporates a strong street frontage of houses linked with car ports that continues the linear development south of Willingham along Station Road with the remaining houses clustered around a shared surface road creating a cul-de-sac. The dwellings are contemporary in design with a palette of materials and build forms that reference the local vernacular and street scape of Willingham.

New Library Storage Facility for Cambridge University

April 2017

Work has started on site on a major new development for Cambridge University facilitating the provision of a purpose built storage facility for low-use, but unique, printed material (books and files containing paper) held by the University Library. The facility is to provide sufficient capacity for the projected storage needs up to 2030 and the site should be large enough to allow for a further 25% expansion of storage capacity beyond that.

Material to be stored in the facility is currently held in several locations in and around Cambridge, which will be ‘migrated’ to the new building over a period of several years. During this period, and thereafter, any request for archive material held in the facility will involve a ‘next day’ delivery to the Main Library in Cambridge with a similar return journey when the loan period is finished.

The University has identified a suitable site on the Lancaster Way Business Park, near Ely, and has reached an agreement with the park developer, Grovemere Property Limited.
